4/23/11 -- Lots of rain today. Tried taking SOUPER to Car-Doc for our annual safety check, but it was just too wet for an open car with no windshield.
'glassed another bay today, but forgot to photograph it. Still not happy with fillets, tape, etc. at the chines -- but the boat will be plenty strong, so I have no worries about that aspect. It's just that the chine 'glassing looks quite rough. I have little hope for improving my 'glassing skills.
I've decided to piece-in the inwales. I now think this is safe to do, because I have clamped an outwale in place to establish a fair curve, and will use a belt sander to fair the top edge of the gunwales after I glue (Titebond) on two more strips on as outwales. The second photo shows a "top view" of the temporary arrangement; with the temporary outwale held in place with clamps. Look carefully at the first photo and you'll spot where the second was taken (on the far side, above the glue bottle.)

Here's a sample of the 8-to-1 scarph joint in the 'wales. Photographer did not notice camera strap in viewfinder. He's done this before.

Mocked up an idea for termination of gunwales at stem. A second laminate will thicken the outwale. The total thickness of the gunwale will be 1-3/4 inches if I continue with this plan.
