Got the cherry for transom from a canoe maker in Elsah, a fellow I met at the Boar Show.
(David Kreutz, at elsahboat.blogspot.com)
-
Ripped it. Planed it. Joined the edges.
-
Cut 4 biscuit slots and applied thin epoxy to biscuits and slots.
-
Thickened remaining epoxy and used it on the joined edges.
-
Lightly clamped two joinded boards with 3 bar clamps.
-
Clamped straight 2 x 2's to edges (with wax paper.)
-
Left a light burning under the covers in 55 degree shop.
Should be much warmer under there.
-
Have made a tagboard patten for transom.
-
Will cut transom to shape (with bevels) tomorrow.
Found some "one by" clear stuff at Lowes. I'll glue it up to make the stem. Have not yet found good 3/8 ply for bottom. May end up using expensive 1/4" marine ply. (I bought three sheets a few years ago.)
