At Raccoon Lake, one of the racers, Art Kampen, filled us in with a lot of info. There were 12 classes of boats racing. We were told some of the boats go 100 mph. They are all weighed (including drivers) and all the winners have their engines inspected.
There are two major types of boats in these events -- hydroplanes and runabouts. The boat pictured above is a hydroplane. |
