The wiring was an oil-soaked mess when I got the boat:

(The "aft wires" are for blower, 360 white light, fuel sender/gauge and common/ground. Not sure right now 4/25/15 of color code.)

4/27/15:

  • Black = Common (Confirmed.)
  • White = "360" white light (Confirmed.)
  • Red = Fuel sender
  • Green = Blower (Confirmed.)
  • ???? = possibly add a wire for fuel gauge light

4/26/15 -- Posted on CCF -- Can someone tell me the function(s) of numbered items in following photo? I'm sure of #1 (horn) and #4 (ignition/start). I suspect #5 is ventilation blower, because of warning label above switch. I also suspect # 2 is navigation lights, because it is a two position switch.

  • 1 = Horn (Confirmed.)
  • 2 = Nav lights (Confirmed.)
  • 3 = Instrument lights
  • 4 = Ignition/start (Confirmed.)
  • 5 = Blower (Confirmed.)
  • 6 = Bilge pump (Confirmed.)

Boat is a '72 Skier, so originally it had no remote fuel gauge on instrument panel, but apparently it had a light under aft deck -- to view gauge at night through window on deck. (The boat now has an electric gauge with light, mounted in aft deck where original "window" was mounted.) Original was not an electric gauge. It was a simple mechanical float gauge.

I am also trying to ID color code for wires running to aft deck, i.e., the wires that are not a part of harness running to engine (BLACK = common, WHITE = 360 light, RED = fuel sender, & GREEN = Blower).

Instead of running aft deck wires in bilge as CC did, We'll run these wires under starboard deck in a small (1/2" ?) diameter PVC thin wall pipe. We'll consider running another wire for fuel gauge light -- and have it operate its light with others on skipper's control panel. If this wire is not run, we'll wire it to be "on" when 360 white light is "on."

"It needed a little work, but what boat doesn't?"
