I've had no problem with the starter except for the difficulty of removing it to find the engine's block ID pictured here.

I think it's not a "marine" starter. I wonder if the excess grease is of concern?
Or should I just wipe it out and grease it?

Notice: 1) The starter was made by American Motors as OEM, but someone (PCM?) "Xed-out" "American Motors" and 2) the starter operates in "reverse" due to the "Right Hand" operation of the engine. (Clockwise, or "right hand" rotation viewed from the back of the engine.)
