Click photo for larger image. There is an oil leak messing up the bilge in MacSkier. We suspect it (if there is only one) is coming from where the dipstick tube enters the oil pan. Here's why:
Click photo for larger image. The boat's engine hatch is a one-piece, 50 pound fiberglas unit, hinged behind the engine at the cockpit floor.

Click photo for larger image. The dipstick, in its tube, is on the starboard side of the engine. Seems a DPO* installed a too-long cooling hose from thermostat housing to exhaust manifold. (See hose with green stripe.) The too-long hose held the dipstick away from the engine -- in the path of the 50-pound engine hatch as it was being closed. At one time or another, possibly many times, the hatch bent the dipstick and its tube away from the engine. This caused failure of the joint where the tube enters the oil pan. It was possible to close the hatch without stressing the joint, but not unless you remembered to hold the tube close to the manifold before closing the hatch. Apparently the DPO didn't remember to do this, because when I got the boat, there had been a poor repair made to the joint between tube and oil pan. Click photo for larger image.
