That's Steve Workman driving MacSkier at Quincy, IL the summer of 2013.

The Morse controller in his right hand controls the Velvet Drive transmission F-N-R and engine speed via two cables. The cables run aft a bit, then down the side of the boat, under the floor and into the forward part of the engine area. See photos below.

My cables are in sad shape, but have worked well. Adjustments are needed; the boat moves too fast by the time the transmission is engaged in fwd.

Looks like I'll need two new ones -- one 88811 (10') and one 88815 (12') from Go2Marine.

Tim (at CCF) says: "You can get them (cables) at Go2Marine. Inspect your ends closely - if they are at all worn, replace them (this is a common wear point). SkiDIM has the best pricing on the ends, last time I checked."

Here's the "trough" that carries the cables running under the carpeted floor boards from starboard side of boat to engine compartment. Note the clamp (single screw in center) that holds cables in place:

Notice how the cables are tied to the stand-off on front of engine -- to keep cables clear of belts and pulleys . . .

Tim (at CCF) says: "These are the ends I was referring to . . . dont reinstall worn pivots! Most used boats I check have pivots that are in pretty bad shape.:"

11/23/13 -- I removed the "front" anchor from the engine and shortened it by "one hole" - so it won't "hang over" the front of the manifold, making for a neater-looking installation. Also drilled a second anchor hole, so each cable will have its own tie-wrap. (That soft fuel line will be replaced with one of metal and the ballast resistor will be replaced with another one (a new one), mounted elsewhere.)

The new cables arrived.

Tim on CFF warned me, posting: "These are the ends I was referring to... dont reinstall worn pivots! Most used boats I check have pivots that are in pretty bad shape."

So I've ordered and received four new ones.

"It needed a little work, but what boat doesn't?"
