Test of 1/2 the hull
--
Dane Andree agreed to meet me at Creve Coeur Lake on Wednesday evening, 8/28/10 and take photos of a test launching of half of Twilight's hull. The hull was wrapped in 6 mil plastic sheeting, but a small hole in the plastic admitted some water and I didn't want to sit in it. (Afterthought -- Now I wonder, why? I've been wet before.) Dane told me there was about six inches of freeboard on the (faux) transom, so I moved aft to see if I could sink it. The "bow" (actually the stern) rose to a ridiculous angle, with no water over the "square end."
Stability is fine, but I'm still not pleased with the design, and may try two more ideas -- a vee bottom, and/or maybe building the boat in three sections rather than two (one 10 ft center section, and two 5 ft sections.) During next test, I will sit with my back to first bulkhead and observe water line.

This is the "aft half" of Twilight. I am facing the rear of the complete boat. The front half has not been built as of this date. It will be identcal in shape to this aft half, but will not have the "trunk" for the motor box. |
