5/10/11 -- Tuesday.

Dennis B. came by to see the boat and was there to help install the first layer of seat support rails (no photo) -- and the first layer of the keel -- one 3/4" x 3/4" piece. See photos below.

I have another Moh's surgery tomorrow morning. Dane A. will stop by the shop in tomorrow evening. Hope to plan a launch day.

5/11/11 -- Wednesday.

Mohs went well -- only one return.

Designed, fabricated and installed forward seat rail support. Excuse fuzzy pics. Thickened epoxy had not cured by quitting time, so did not bend in and glue second laminate on rails.

Having Carl's planer on loan makes me wonder how I've lived this long without owning one. That piece maked "KEEL" was trimmed from first layer of keel, then the second piece was planed to match later:

Typical of scarph joint in gunwale lamination:

Dane A. stopped by this evening. I asked him for help in photographing boat in water so we can determine seat and oarlock location. Dane said "Sure," so Monday is the probable launch date for the rowing skiff "Uncle Richard." (Lots of sanding and painting to be accomplished before then, and three bench seats and oarlocks to be located after CG determined.)

Many plywood boat guys use Kilz paint for primer. Sears had it on sale this week, so I bought a gallon. I'm thinking of white hull, dark brown gunwales and same tan interior used on "Zac's Boat."

Moved boat outside for sanding of gunwales with belt sander:

How did this happen? It certainly was not planned:

Glued on second laminate on keel, using small finish nails to keep pieces aligned, then spread remainder of unthickened epoxy on exteror of keel. The nails will remain.

5/12/11 -- Thursday.

Drove to Shipiros and spent 12 bucks on a piece of aluminum to use on bottom of keel. It will be fastened every 6 inches with brass flat heads.

Used Titebond to glue second laminate on seat rails. Mocked up two seats (no pics) and gave the boat a coat of white primer on outside of hull. Ripped and planed some more keel stock, and built-up forward end of keel as described earlier. Fastened one pair of oarlocks to gunwales 12 inches behind main frame.

Bought a new marine battery at Wal-Mart for (Zac's) green boat. I plan to take it to Creve Coeur Lake for "Paddle Days" on Saturday (and listen for cries of "Hey, that's not fair!")
