3/6/16 -- MacSkier already had 30 minutes of running at 2000 rpm, with zinc in the oil and occasional "bursts" to 3000 rpm. We considered the cam "broken in." Later, when I tried running it (in the driveway on a garden hose) to set idle, find the annoying rattle near the Telex shifter, and adjusting the shift cable, I found the prop shaft was turning clockwise with enough force I could not stop it while prying with a wood "crowbar." I feared damaging the (dry) cutlass bearing so I took the boat to a ramp on the Meramec River. The river was running swiftly, but the ramp let me leave the boat on the trailer and run the engine. I ran it for 15 minutes, found the rattle was a loose rivet, and learned that with the tranny warm (5 minutes) I can stop the prop shaft from turning -- just by grabbing it. See video. I also ran it "in gear" for a minute or so, just to make sure the tranny is working. All in all, a successful run. I think we're going to Florida for the St. John's River Run, or at least a portion of it. See you in Tavares?
